An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Post-doctoral research associate to join the School of Physical Sciences at the University of Kent on a full time basis for three years.
You will be working on an STFC-funded project 'Impact Shock Synthesis of Prebiotic Molecules' in the University of Kent's School of Physical Sciences. Working with Dr. Mark Price you will investigate possible shock synthesis production routes of bio-significant molecules.
As Postdoctoral Research Associate you will:
- Carry out analysis (primarily using the School's GCMS instrumentation) of shock samples looking for (statistically rigorous) evidence of shock synthesised species
- Be able to interpret data from these experiments and design follow-on impact experiments to constrain the viability of shock production of bio-significant species
- Use computer modelling to determine the peak shock pressures and temperatures experienced during an impact to deduce the chemical synthesis route(s)
PhD in Physics or Chemistry
An Undergraduate degree which contained modules covering practical aspects of analytical science
Knowledge of contamination prevention protocols
Careful and meticulous lab skills (e.g. the handling of tiny amounts of sample material)
