Job Description

This opportunity is for a 6-months internship, ideal for an engineering student looking for early experience of the aerospace sector. We are open to consider a full staff position following this internship. This is an exciting opportunity for you as an engineer to get familiar with both technical and commercial aspects of the space sector in a fast-growing start-up.

You will be joining Open Cosmos’ core team in Harwell-Oxford (UK). You will be reporting to the Head of Bids and Strategic Partnerships and participate primarily in the business intelligence activities of the company, as well as support to definition of new space missions.

Tasks and responsibilities 

The business intelligence activities will include:

  • Top-level analysis of possible mission concepts
  • Gathering knowledge and maintain a database of satellite missions with technical, programmatic and commercial information
  • Identification and classification of payloads
  • Analysis of trends, reports and graphs associated with that information

The definition of new space missions:

  • Concept of operations
  • Link, mass, volume and power budgets
  • Top-level performance of satellite mission (e.g. image resolution, revisit for Earth Observation, data-rate for communication)

Person Specification

Skills, attitude and experience  

  • Engineering background in space
  • Mission analysis through STK, Savoir or other tools
  • Strong experience in excel
  • Autonomous and challenge-driven
  • Proactive and resourceful
  • Strongly motivated and ability to communicate it

Nice to have  

  • Experience in working in teams and manage individual projects
  • Coding experience in VBA
  • Space projects (summer school, mission definition studies, paper contribution)
