Job Description

Craft Prospect is looking to expand its team. We are looking for a passionate physicist or engineer to support us to realise space projects from concept to delivery. We are working with partners on the delivery of an innovative quantum optical communication payload for an upcoming quantum key distribution mission. The role will sit across a number of R&D projects where you will be responsible for ensuring that quantum optical requirements and design are integrated into the mission, and leading the integration and testing of core quantum optical components. You will support the systems engineers in the development of representative optical communication models, as the domain expert.

Responsibilities 

  • Leading design, integration and testing of quantum optical systems
  • Creation of optical communication link models and budgets
  • Communicating applied quantum physics between academia and industry
  • Quantum key distribution subject matter expert
  • Development of operational procedures for QKD payloads
  • Effective delivery of work packages within cost and time constraints

Term : 18 mo fixed, 80% FTE Tu-Fr (100% possible) 

Successful completion is expected to lead to a permanent role with associated benefits such as membership of company share pool. Dependent on circumstances, a flexible start date, job share or 100% FTE position may be discussed.

Person Specification

Requirements 

  • Applied experience of electronics, optical and/or mechanical systems 
  • Knowledge and effective communication of quantum key distribution 
  • Knowledge of general quantum optical systems 
  • Desire to work on new technologies and concepts for space 
  • Ability and initiative to work autonomously 
  • Strong communication skills 
  • Desire to work within a small dynamic team
  • Able to work in UK, from May 2019 onwards 

Preferred 

  • Experience with performance testing of quantum optical systems
  • Experience in designing and manufacturing optical systems
  • Knowledge of CubeSat systems
