Job Description

Volunteering with the IOP over the summer

Yes, summer is really here – along with our fantastic new ‘Moon Adventure’ exhibition and event programme. This is your chance to get involved! There are two volunteer roles available, so come join us as we celebrate the 50 th anniversary of the first people to walk on the Moon.

Exhibition Explainer:

What’s it like to be an astronaut? Where did the Moon come from? What’s the future of humans in Space? If you are a space enthusiast and want to help our visitors find out these answers we want to hear from you! We would like to have explainers in gallery over the run of the exhibition to welcome visitors, help guide them through the
exhibition and bring the activities to life. There will also be the opportunity to deliver some extra demonstrations for visitors to
help support the content of the exhibition as well as helping to facilitate the existing activities, experiments and displays.

Our Exhibition will be open 10.00 – 17.00 on weekdays between the 10 July and 30 August.

We offer either a half day: (10.00 – 14.00 or 13.00 – 17.00) or full day (11.00 – 16.00) option for volunteering. We will reimburse travel expenses up to £20 a day.

Training:

We offer a half day training, which we strongly encourage volunteers to attend. This will be both an introduction to the IOP, training to deliver activities and top tips to engage with our visitors. Dates are:

  • Friday 12 July 10.30 - 14.30
  • OR Friday 26 July 10.30 – 14.30

Event Support:

We are looking for volunteers on the following dates;

  • Saturday 20 July – Family Day: Join us for a special Saturday opening of the IOP building. Visit the exhibition and take part in our hands on experiments and activities, featuring artist Helen Schell's Creative workshop to design a postcard of your very own Moon adventure.
  • Saturday 17 August – Family Day: Join us for a special Saturday opening of the IOP building. Visit the exhibition and take part in our hands on experiments and activities including drawing a giant space comic strip with artist Sally Kindberg!
