Are you highly collaborative? Do you have an impressive background in writing and testing software? Does the idea of applying your talents and creativity to the future of space exploration excite you? If so, then this could be the perfect career opportunity for you.
The Space & Atmospheric Physics Group in Imperial College London’s Department of Physics is in search of a Software Engineer to become part of the highly successful, multi-disciplinary team.
Duties and responsibilities
This unique opportunity will enable you to:
- Write software that will fly on board the magnetometer instrument for the NASA IMAP Mission to investigate the acceleration of energetic particles and the interaction of the solar wind with the local interstellar medium.
- Write software upgrades for the magnetometer currently flying on the European Space Agency Solar Orbiter Mission to study the Sun, to fully exploit the science from the instrument.
You must have a degree (or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience) in physics, computer science, engineering, or a closely related discipline.
You will have a background in software design and test. An interest in space hardware is highly desirable, however, we are also interested in hearing from software minded graduates who excel at problem solving and like to be challenged.
This career opportunity will suit a motivated individual who would relish working with a small team who have developed instruments that have produced outstanding science on missions such as Cassini, Rosetta and Cluster.
