About Us

Kratos Communications is a wholly owned UK subsidiary of Kratos Defense and Security Solutions (Space, Training & Cyber Division), with Headquarters in San Diego, USA. Based in Gateshead’s Team Valley trading estate, Kratos Communications is a designer and builder of electro-mechanical systems in the world of Satellite Communications, working on large satellite ground system projects for satellite operators, telecoms companies and broadcasters, including government agencies, world-wide.

About the Role

We are recruiting an Import/Export Coordinator to join our commercial team to help support the company’s international contracts. This job is located at our Gateshead, UK, office and applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK.

Duties will include:

Import/Export/Cross Trade Shipping

  • management of international air and sea freight movements in line with contract terms using freight forwarders and selected couriers
  • UK import and export clearance instructions including correct use of HS Classifications & CPCs
  • preparation of commercial shipping paperwork (packing lists, commercial invoices, certificates of origin, etc)
  • check and validation of 3rd party transport documents (AWB/BOL etc)
  • management of overseas customs clearance and delivery per contract requirements
  • Also booking domestic movements through online courier websites or national road freight services

Project Planning & Reporting

  • Scheduling per project timescales requirements in coordination with company’s Project Managers
  • Freight costing / RFQs to freight forwarders
  • UK & Destination Import tax calculation/estimation as required
  • Carry out independent project research using the UK Market Access Database

Administration & Statutory Requirements

  • E-filing and maintenance of detailed shipping records
  • Import VAT accounting support
  • Export compliance and control checks including screening of vendors and customers and completion of related forms
  • UK Export License applications support as required

Person Specification

The candidate will have good organisational skills. An ability to prioritise and work efficiently under pressure is essential.

Strong IT skills are mandatory for this role; particularly proficient use of MS Excel. Competence and confidence with office/Windows based IT applications including e.g. email, virtual meeting platforms, browsers and explorer tools for organised electronic file management. Experience of preparing and publishing documentation using MS Word and Adobe Acrobat is also preferable. 

Experience and working knowledge of some or all of the following is desirable:

  • INCOTERMS and commercial trading
  • HMRC Customs Procedures (CPCs)
  • Harmonised Tariff System
  • Letters of Credit
  • Commercial paperwork
  • Transport Documents
  • Overseas customs processes
  • UK Export License/Controls requirements
