Job Description

To contribute to operational and science-based services and system developments for 
national and international EO programmes. 

Responsibilities / Duties 
The successful candidate will be expected to; 
 Perform routine quality control of operational and reprocessed EO data products 
consistently and to a set schedule 
 Produce quality reports on mission data 
 Identify and investigate quality issues and anomalies 
 Research and respond to technical user queries 
 Support services to ESA and international organisations including the Earthnet 
   Data Assessment Pilot (EDAP) and Instrument Data quality Evaluation and 
   Analysis Service (IDEAS-QA4EO) 
 Interact with expert customers and partners on mission data issues 
 Use programming to automate/ enhance routine procedures 
 Contribute to posters, publications and presentations at meetings/ conferences 
 Contribute to technical proposal authoring to win new work 
 Occasional travel to conferences/ customer sites

Person Specification

Qualifications / Experience 
 University degree/Masters (or equivalent) in Geography, Physics, Remote 
   Sensing or a related discipline. 
 Experience in either an industrial or academic setting; 
o Supporting operational processing systems for EO data (e.g. Level 0 to 
   Level 1 and Level 2 processing) 
o Working with EO data, in particular from altimetry missions such as 
o Using and adapting tools for remote sensing data manipulation 

Essential Skills 
 Understanding of EO data processing levels 
 Understanding of instrument calibration principles (e.g. geometric, radiometric, 
   spectral, etc) with a particular knowledge of altimetry sensors 
 Data handling and manipulation 
 Proficiency with Linux operating systems and Python 
 Technical document authoring

 Comfortable in a (scientific) customer facing role 
 Self-motivated and creative individual 
 Ability to use initiative and prioritise a diverse workload 
 Positive, “can-do” approach 
 Willingness to adapt their role to meet the current needs 
 Encouraging and supportive of team co-workers
