Job Description

The successful candidate will be involved in projects for design, building and testing of electronic systems for launch vehicles and UAV-based systems. You will be frequently involved in hands-on tasks in your field of expertise and to assist others during launch campaigns and commercial operations. We aim to push the boundaries of current aerospace technologies, therefore you will be learning about and conducting novel research to continually improve our existing and upcoming systems.

Responsibilities

  • To design reliable and robust electronic hardware to specification for use on Suborbital Launch Vehicles and UA systems.
  • To ensure that safety critical electronics are designed with fail-safe techniques and sufficient redundancy to meet predefined Product Assurance & Design Standards, such as the relevant ECSS, NTSS & RTCA standards.
  • To be responsible for the delegated areas of project technical, certification & operational documentation- designing, developing and verifying systems using the in-house NSEF systems engineering framework.

Salary

£27,000 – £35,000 depending on experience

Person Specification

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Degree in Electronics Engineering or similar relevant field
  • Minimum 2 years industry experience
  • Strong experience with circuit design and simulation (e.g. SPICE based tools)
  • Good knowledge and experience of UAV system design
  • Basic knowledge of electrical test equipment and UAS sensors
  • Experience with power distribution systems used for UAVs or similar systems

Preferred:

  • Awareness of ECSS standards, and experience of projects through Phase 0/A To D/E
  • Soldering and/or PCB reflow experience
  • Experience with Altium PCB design software (or similar software)
  • Experience with using common communication methods such as SPI, I2C etc.
  • Familiarity with electrical interfaces and connection methods
  • Knowledge of RF electronics or Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) is an added bonus.
  • Knowledge of UAV platforms, like, Pixhawk, DJI, Ardupilot and PX4 is an advantage.

Desirable Skills and Qualities

  • Ability to prioritise and manage work to critical project timelines in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Open minded and willing to engage with a variety of tasks/duties.
  • Good Microsoft Office skills, Word, Excel and SharePoint.
  • Positive and proactive ‘can-do’ attitude and ability to understand a ‘new space’ start-up environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
