Job Description

The Spaceport Cornwall Outreach Coordinator (12 month fixed term position) is the individual responsible for designing, coordinating and delivering a number of curriculum linked, space related workshops, exhibits and experiences. The aim of this is to ultimately increase the number of students interested in STEM or STEAM and to support and delivery of an inspirational outreach programme for educational institutions and students in the lead up to the first ever sovereign launch from UK soil.

 

The role will develop innovative ways to engage with local schools, colleges, universities, students, teachers and parents to encourage the uptake of STEAM subjects, utilising the power of space to inspire, and clearly identify the pathways into careers in the industry. These engagements can be in person, or virtual, or a combination of the two. Some will be free of charge and others will be chargeable, with the ultimate aim of making this role self-funded in the future.

 

The Outreach Coordinator will be supporting the delivery of a major G7 Legacy project, a series of outreach exhibits in Cornwall over the year leading up to the first launch. These exhibits will target audiences that may not have come across Spaceport, or space launch before, and aims to increase their awareness of the opportunities the project brings to communities in Cornwall, and the UK.

 

The role holder will work across a number of private and public stakeholders, including; local government, National Government, schools, space sector industry, Virgin Group, UK Space Agency, European Space Agency, HE/FE, media, general public.

 

 

 

This is a 12 month year fixed term contract to cover a specific project.

Person Specification

The Outreach Coordinator will work within a technical environment, with multiple stakeholders and requires knowledge of the space industry and commercial launch, exceptional communication skills, energy and can connect well with a wide range of audiences, especially younger students as well as being comfortable with a public profile and spokesperson capability.
