Job Description

We are seeking a Detector Simulation Scientist to join The Centre for Electronic Imaging (CEI). The CEI is a research centre within the School of Physical Sciences at the Open University. The CEI is a collaboration between the Open University and Teledyne e2v, a world-leading manufacturer of scientific and industrial image sensors.

You will be part of a small team working on the Euclid VIS CCD project. Euclid is a European Space Agency mission which, when launched, will map the dark Universe. You will be engaged in all aspects of the electro-optical and radiation damage characterisation and optimisation of the new CCD sensor including simulating its operation performance and will become a key expert in the development, operation and performance modelling of the Euclid VIS CCDs, and analysis of the data from the instrument detectors.

Person Specification

You will have a PhD in Physics, Astronomy, Engineering or a closely related subject and will have a good understanding and experience with image sensor characterisation and data analysis. You will also have experience in writing data analysis algorithms with a demonstrable proficiency in software development using MATLAB, C/C++, Java and/or Python or similar development environments. Good problem solving, analytical and time management skills are essential along with a logical and rigorous approach to work and the ability to work both as part of a team and on your own initiative.
