Engineers and Technicians – Environmental Test facilities for Space
Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Harwell Campus, Oxfordshire
Full time and part time opportunities
Excellent opportunities for skilled Engineers and Technicians to work in the Space Industry at the new National Satellite Test Facility.
The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) is one of Europe’s largest multi-disciplinary research organisations. STFC’s RAL Space department carries out an exciting range of world-class space research and technology development. We’ve had significant involvement in over 200 space missions and operate at the forefront of UK Space Research.
RAL Space was recently awarded £99m from the UK Government’s Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund to develop the National Satellite Test Facility (NSTF); providing world class facilities for the assembly, integration and testing of space payloads and satellites.
About the Roles
We are now looking for interest from talented Engineers and Technicians to further develop the existing test capabilities within RAL Space to meet the requirement of the NSTF.
Over future months we will be looking for experienced operators of Vibration, Thermal Vacuum (TVAC) chambers, and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) facilities related to space, however we’re also keen to hear from candidates with related engineering experience that wish to move into a Space test environment.
In order to staff the NSTF we will have vacancies for:
- technical system owners – Vibration/Acoustics/TVAC/EMC and Antennae testing/Data management
- campaign managers – bid management through to overall programme management of the test campaign
- operators of the specialised equipment – TVAC will require shift working, other facilities may require shift patterns on occasion. Attention to detail is important as is adherence to procedures.
The work conducted in the NSTF will be tightly controlled through test procedures and conform to highly structured processes. Technical system owners will need to own their procedures/processes, operators will need to follow them. Senior staff will also hold line management responsibility.
STFC offers a benefits package designed to provide an excellent work/life balance including 30 days’ annual leave, flexible working hours, a workplace nursery, exceptional pension scheme and social and sporting activities and societies
Applicants are required to include a cover letter outlining their suitability for this role.
