STFC is one of nine organisations that have been brought together to create UK Research and Innovation (UKRI); a new organisation with a vision to ensure the UK maintains its world-leading position in research and innovation.
RAL Space is STFC’s ‘Space Department’. It is one of seven operational departments located at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL) and is dedicated to supporting the programmes of the STFC as well as undertaking a large number of contracts for space agencies, industry and other commercial customers. RAL Space provides world-leading research and technology development, space test facilities, instrument and mission design, and studies of science and technology requirements for new missions. It has been involved in over 210 missions to date, producing instruments and software for space flight, and building and operating ground segments for both NASA-led and ESA-led missions.
