Farnborough International Airshow 2018
SpaceCareers.uk and UKSEDS at the 2018 Farnborough International Airshow!
Farnborough International Airshow is the world's second largest airshow bringing together thousands of aviation and aerospace experts and enthusiasts over a week long trade show and public event over the weekend.
The UK Space Industry saw some very exciting announcements over the week including funding being awarded for the development of the UK’s first vertical spaceport in Sutherland and the news that Newport, Wales will be hosting the next UK Space Conference in 2019. As said by Alice Bunn, the International Director at the UK Space Agency:
‘This week has been a phenomenal week for space. It’s an absolutely fantastically exciting time for the sector’
At Futures Day, Tim Peake launched the search for the name of the ExoMars rover, saying
‘Mars is a fantastic destination, a place where humans will one day work alongside robots to gather new knowledge and search for life in our Solar System.’
‘The ExoMars rover is a vital part of this journey of exploration and we’re asking you to become part of this exciting mission and name the rover that will scout the Martian surface.’
Sadly it’s unlikely we will see Rover McRockface on Mars anytime soon as the final decision will be made by a panel of experts. To submit your name idea click here.
Over the weekend UKSEDS and SpaceCareers.uk could be found in the Space Zone where we spoke to about 1500 members of the public, from young children to students and adults about the rockets we had on display and share what an exciting time it is to be involved in the UK space sector right now.
