Job Description

Are you a student or early-career professional eager to apply your Front-End Development skills to real-world projects? Do you want to gain hands-on experience by collaborating with leading professionals in the space industry?

If so, you might be the perfect fit for our new Front-End Developer role!

Who are we?

As the UK’s national student and early professional space charity, we support space enthusiasts nationwide by running events, providing resources, and teaching new skills.

Joining UKSEDS is the best way to get involved in the space sector as a student or as you kickstart your career. You will gain a variety of skills and experience, and have the chance to work with many space organisations and community members. Most importantly, you will get to work with other like-minded individuals at a similar stage in their careers to achieve something incredible, and have fun while you do!

Role Description

As our Front-End Developer, you’ll work closely with our Systems Team to create and maintain user-friendly web interfaces. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your technical skills and contribute to projects that have a meaningful real-world impact.

In this role, you will:

Develop and maintain web pages using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Collaborate with designers and back-end developers to enhance usability.

Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs.

Optimise web applications for speed and scalability.

Assist in troubleshooting and debugging issues.

To thrive in this position, you will have:

  • A passion for space exploration and technology.
  • Experience or knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to work remotely and juggle multiple projects at once.
  • The ability to commit around 6-8 hours per week on average.
  • An existing UKSEDS membership (it is free to join at ukseds.org/join) that meets our eligibility requirements (18+, currently a student or recent graduate of a UK-based institution).

It would be great if you were familiar with responsive design principles and a basic understanding of version control systems (such as Git), but this isn’t strictly required.

By joining us, you will gain:

  • Practical experience and participation in key web development projects.
  • Experience in interacting with key members of the space industry, including sponsors and partners.
  • Endless opportunities for personal and professional development, all while working with an amazing group of likeminded enthusiasts.

How we can support you

We want your time with us to be an enjoyable experience, and we’re open to anyone with an interest in space.

We understand that as students or early professionals, you may face commitments like exams, work deadlines, or personal matters. If you ever need time off, just let us know, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs while providing ample opportunities for your personal and professional growth.

We are committed to ensuring your comfort and supporting you throughout your time with us. All we ask in return is that you maintain open communication about any time off you require, as a lack of communication or inability to meet your volunteer duties may lead to the termination of your role.
